MMNEC Documents and Procedures

Statement of Purpose

The Michigan Medical Nutrition Education Consortium (MMNEC) is dedicated to advancing and enhancing nutrition education within the medical curriculum across the state of Michigan. Comprised of appointed members from all Michigan medical schools, MMNEC serves as a collaborative platform aimed at improving the understanding and integration of nutrition science within medical education.

Our primary goal is to ensure that medical students in Michigan receive comprehensive and evidence-based nutrition education that equips them with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively address the role of nutrition in health promotion, disease prevention, and patient care. By integrating and expanding nutrition education into the medical curriculum, we aim to cultivate a new generation of healthcare professionals who are proficient in assessing, advising, and advocating for optimal nutrition practices to improve patient outcomes and overall community health.

MMNEC is committed to fostering interdisciplinary collaboration among medical educators, nutrition experts, healthcare practitioners, and community stakeholders to develop innovative educational strategies, resources, and initiatives that promote the importance of nutrition in healthcare. Through advocacy efforts, curriculum development, professional development, and research support, we seek to elevate the status of nutrition education within medical schools and cultivate a culture of lifelong learning and competency in nutrition care among healthcare providers.

In collaboration with our medical school institutions, MMNEC is dedicated to driving positive change in medical education and healthcare delivery by prioritizing nutrition education as an essential component of comprehensive medical training. We are committed to empowering future healthcare professionals with the skills and competencies needed to address the complex nutritional needs of diverse patient populations and contribute to the promotion of health equity and well-being across Michigan communities.
